  • 2 lbs Russet Potatoes Peeled and quartered
  • 1/2 cup Whole Milk
  • 1/4 cup Unsalted Butter
  • 1 tsp Salt Or to taste
  • 1/2 tsp Black Pepper Freshly ground, or to taste
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder Optional, for extra flavor
  • 1/4 tsp Onion Powder Optional, for extra flavor

Method
 

Instructions
  1. Place potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water. Bring to a boil over high heat.
  2. Reduce heat to medium and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until easily pierced with a fork.
  3. Drain potatoes thoroughly in a colander. Return potatoes to the pot.
  4. Using a potato masher or electric mixer, mash potatoes until smooth. If using a mixer, start on low and gradually increase to medium. Avoid overmixing.
  5. Add milk and butter; stir until butter is melted and mixture is creamy and smooth.
  6. Stir in salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder (if using). Taste and adjust seasonings as needed. Add more milk if potatoes are too thick.
  7. Serve immediately as a hot side dish.

Notes

For extra richness, use heavy cream instead of some of the milk. You can also add herbs like chives or parsley for added flavor. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
