Method
- Step 1: Start by greasing a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
- Step 2: Next, take your loaf of French bread and cut it into cubes. Place the cubed bread evenly in the prepared baking dish.
- Step 3: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
- Step 4: Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes, making sure every piece is coated. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
- Step 5: The next morning, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Step 6: In a separate bowl, mix the melted butter and brown sugar until well combined. Drizzle this mixture over the bread casserole.
- Step 7: If desired, sprinkle chopped pecans on top of the brown sugar mixture.
- Step 8: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes until set and golden brown on top.
- Step 9: Once baked, remove the casserole from the oven and allow it to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave before serving.
