- Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Step 2: Line a muffin tin with paper liners or grease the cups.
- Step 3: In a medium bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking soda, ground ginger, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, ground cloves, and salt. Whisk until well mixed.
- Step 4: In a large bowl, beat the softened unsalted butter and brown sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Step 5: Add the large egg and mix until fully incorporated. Then add the molasses, buttermilk, and vanilla extract, stirring until well combined.
- Step 6: Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture into the wet ingredients, using a spatula to mix until just combined.
- Step 7: Divide the batter evenly among the prepared muffin cups, filling each about two-thirds full.
- Step 8: Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Step 9: Allow the muffins to cool in the pan for about 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Step 10: For the maple glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar, maple syrup, and enough milk to achieve desired consistency.
- Step 11: Drizzle the maple glaze over the cooled muffins.

These muffins can be made ahead of time and stored for later. They can also be frozen for up to 3 months.
