Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the pie crust in a 9-inch pie plate.
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss gently to coat.
- Stir in 1 tablespoon of butter. Pour the apple mixture into the pie crust.
- In a separate bowl, combine the flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apple filling.
- Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender. If the crust starts to brown too quickly, cover the edges with foil.
- Let the pie cool on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature with a scoop of vanilla ice cream (optional).
Notes
For a crispier crumble, use less butter or bake for a few extra minutes. You can also add other spices like cardamom or allspice to the filling or crumble. Feel free to experiment with different types of apples for variations in flavor and texture.
